It is a common misconception that gender identity and sexual orientation are the same. A transgender person may identify as straight, gay, lesbian, bisexual, or queer, just like a cisgender person.
This is the process of aligning one's life and/or body with their gender identity. It can be social (changing names, pronouns, or clothing) or medical (hormone therapy or surgery). Not every trans person chooses or has access to medical transition.
