"Welcome to Republic City" is both the series premiere of The Legend of Korra and the name of the sprawling, steampunk-inspired metropolis that serves as the show's primary setting. Founded by Avatar Aang and Fire Lord Zuko after the Hundred Year War, it was designed as a sanctuary where benders and non-benders from all four nations could coexist in harmony.

Republic City grew from the ashes of the Fire Nation colony . Following the war, Aang and Zuko faced the challenge of what to do with established multicultural colonies in the Earth Kingdom.
